The Air Jordan 1 was officially designed by Peter Moore. Most of the components of the shoe were derived from other Nike models like the Air Force 1, Nike Dunk, Air Ship, & Nike Vandal. Moore created the Jordan “Wings” logo to perfectly compliment the shoe.
On April 20th 1986, during game 2 of the Bulls VS Celtics, Jordan scored an NBA record of 63 points, all while wearing the Air Jordan 1. A record still held to this day. After game 2, Celtics legend Larry Bird was famously interviewed by the Boston Globe & had this to say about MJ: “I would never have called him the greatest player I’d ever seen if I didn’t mean it… It’s just God disguised as Michael Jordan.”
Signing MJ & designing the Air Jordan 1 proved to be one of the biggest contributing factors to Nike’s success over the past 30 years. From expert marketing campaigns, revolutionary designs & most of all, MJ’s performance on the court – the matrimony of Nike + Jordan forever changed the game. MJ ignited a huge global interest in basketball, the first of it’s kind. The NBA has not seen higher TV ratings since MJ’s last playoff series in 1998.
